Dear applicant,
Thank you for your decision to apply for membership in Rochdale Co-op. Due to the large number of applications that we usually receive, our membership process is sometimes lengthy.
This application is meant for more than giving us information about a prospective member. We want the prospective member also to get to know the issues that involve applying and living in our co-op.
We are a non-racist, non-sexist, non-homophobic, and culturally tolerant community. We expect the new members also to uphold these principles. Every member of our co-op is required to do weekly house iobs, attend the biweekly house meetings, and cook for the rest of the house once during every food cycle.
Please make sure that you will have enough time for these responsibilities before you start filling out this application.
After our membership coordinator receives your application, you will be invited to have one or two dinners with us so that we will get an opportunity to know each other. Later we will make a decision on your application based on the majority vote.
When we are choosing a new member, we as a group need to consider various factors concerning the applicant as well as concerning our co-op. Later each person casts his/her vote based on what that person as an individual considers as important factor(s). For that reason, we strongly urge you not to consider our decision as a judgment on you or your personality if we decided that we could not accept you. In fact we encourage rejected members to apply again some time after a semester period. We keep the rejected member's application in our fie, if an applicant requests so.
